I
started painting houses professionally in the summer of 1982,
when I moved to the small town of Kent, Connecticut. I was
hired by a friend to paint an old barn that he rented for his
landscaping business. It was his way of repaying the landlord
for the use of the barn, and since I had just returned from
California, and had no other work lined up, I jumped at the
chance. I hadn't planned on becoming a housepainter, but one
thing led to another, and before I knew it, I was
"booked up" for the rest of the summer. In a small
town like Kent, word gets around, and the quality of your
work is always your best (and sometimes your only)
advertisement. I was fortunate enough to catch the eye of
enough people in the area to start my own business, and have
been painting ever since.
